He spent his boyhood in the Cascade Mountain foothills of the Willamette Valley between the Calapooia and Santiam Rivers near Sweet Home, Oregon in Linn County. After many memorable and rewarding years of teaching in different cultures and environments around the world, he has returned home. His studio is located on his family’s original homestead in Holley, Oregon. Rich's work with stoneware and earthenware clays involve an iron oxide process on the outside, with dark rich glazes on the inside of his pieces.
